The Best Garlic Wax Beans

This is quite posisbly my favorite method for cooking the best garlic wax beans (or green beans)!

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 2 handfuls wax beans, ends trimmed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Fat

  • 1 Tbsp good oil (about .5 oz)

Extras

  • good pinch of salt
  • chili flakes

Instructions

  • First, pour about 1/2 cup of water in a skillet and add the beans. Cover and simmer/steam for about 5-8 minutes (taste along the way to see exactly how cooked you’d like them). If the water evaporates, add more so it continues to cook.
  • Next, when they’ve reached your favorite “bite”, use the lid to hold the beans back in the pan while you gently tip the pan over in the sink and release the leftover water.
  • Return the skillet to the stove and make a little hole in the middle of the pot. Add the oil and garlic, salt, and don’t disturb this for about 20-30 seconds, when the garlic gets really fragrant. Don’t let it burn.
  • Lastly, mix the garlic/oil mixture into the green beans, and serve with a sprinkle of chili flakes on top, optional.

Notes

For measurements: I typically make a big batch and measure out my veggies at the end. I could easily eat 10 ounces of this!
